Welcome to the official website of Rutherford Association
Football Club
Founded in 1878 in Newcastle upon Tyne as Science and Art F.C. involving masters
and pupils of the school, which was later to change it's name to Rutherford
after it's founder Dr John Hunter Rutherford.
The club became a founder member of the Northumberland
Football Association in 1883. In 2005 the club moved affiliation
from the Northumberland FA to the Durham
Football Association.
The senior men's team now competes in the Northern Football
Alliance Division One. The club now boasts teams ranging from the Senior
Men's team to under 7s boys and girls teams as well as 'Soccer Tots' for 4 and 5 year olds.
The club introduced mini soccer with the formation of teams at under 7, 8, 9 and 10 level and a total of ten sides are currently competing at this level in the Gateshead Youth League. In addition the junior girls are also playing mini soccer in the Russell Foster Youth League. We have a senior men’s deaf team as well as an over 40’s side to go with 5 senior men’s Saturday and Sunday teams and our two women’s sides.
In 2003 the club was proud to be awarded the Charter Standard by
the English Football Association. For more information on the Charter
