Today we faced Lumley Ladies at home. The previous day had seen icey temps postpone all our grass pitches so an early pitch inspection by the groundsman was a must. Luckily the temps had picked up and the pitch defrosted allowing us to play a game of football for the first time in 3 weeks.
Lumley arrived with only 9 players which i think is huge credit to them and they battled for the entire 90 minutes. I spoke to the girls before the match whilst realsing they were short and asked them to play in a sportsmanship manner and concentrate on playing good football as apose to just going for a double figure scoreline like some other teams would. The girls done exactly as i asked which saw some tremendous football being played all over the pitch.
The ball barely left Lumleys half in the first 45 minutes. Their keeper pulled off a load of tremendous saves and kept us out until the 22nd minute. The first goal was a superb cross from Wilson fired in by Scott. About 15 minutes after this goal Scott found the second taking on numerous players and beating the keeper with ease.
We went into the half time break 2-0 up. The girls had played some excellent football and showed great team work all over the pitch. They went back out for the second half with the exact same attitude as the first.
The second half saw Lumley tire due to low numbers but they still worked hard for the entire remaining half. We saw another 4 terrific finishes from Fairbairn, Richardson and a well deserved brace from Scott.
Player of the match was awarded to Scott for her brilliant and passionate perfromance from start to finish not to mention her 4 excellent goals.
Overall, a great game of football by the girls also showing great sportmanship and not going for the degrading score line like many others would. A huge 3 points before the christmas break.
Well done ladies..... Merry Christmas.... don't eat too much turkey!!!
