Today we faced Silksworth ladies at home in our first league game of the new year. With a text sent at 12.20pm by the referee to say he couldn't do the game things were up in the air but thankfully Ian Carr a local referee came to our rescue so the game could be played.
We started the game quite slow struggling to get out of first gear. The Christmas break seemed to of took it's toll on the girls seeing them make lots of silly mistakes which made the game harder for themselves.
Finally around 15 minutes into the first half we netted our first goal of the game. A terrific cross from Armstrong finding Andrews who turned and vollied the ball sending it crashing past the opposing keeper. This seemed to spur us on and we created another boat load of chances hitting the cross bar and have chances saved on the line. Armstrong got another fab assist in the 23rd minute this time a tremendous header finish by Turnball. Within 3 minutes of this goal Turnball won the ball again playing in Fairbairn who beat the Silksworth keeper with ease. Fairbairn continued to pressure our opponents and in the 37th minute took on numerous players and whacked the ball sending it crashing past the keeper, giving us the 4-0 lead going into the half time break.
The second half the whole team battled well and created so many chances at goal and most importantly played some superb football. Turnball got herself another two assists and we scored another 3 goals brilliantly finished by Armstrong, Andrews and Richardson.
Player of the match today was a tough call as there was so many people deserving of the title who it was Andrews who stole the show. She had an awesome game, working her socks off from start to finish and scoring two fantastic goals. Overall, a great team game as well as some brilliant personal performances. Well done ladies a great 3 points.
