Today we travelled away to Bishop Auckland Ladies Development side on a 3G pitch. The winds were strong which was a worry of spoiling a good game of football.
The game started well for both sides seeing us both battle hard at each other. It was us that took the upper hand and in the 9th minute of the half saw us net our first goal of the game. Strong midfielder Stubbs played through a perfect ball finding Scotts feet who shot and sent the ball crashing past the Bishop keeper. We attacked straight back at Bishop after this to look for the next goal but they defended well denying us a good number of chances. In the 19th minute Scott won the ball and made her run towards goal, being closed down by several Bishop defenders she played the ball through to Richardson who struck the ball and beat the keeper with ease. Our third and final goal of the first half was scored in the 28th minute of play from a tremendous corner ball taken by Armstrong. The corner found Scott who headed the ball towards the goal but this was cleared on the line by a Bishop defender. However Rerrie was there for the rebound and sent the ball crashing in to the back of the net.
Half time came and the girls had a well earned break and headed back out ready for the second half. We couldn't of started better seeing Scott score a hattrick within the first 12 minutes of the half. Bishop were a different team in the second half almost looking like they'd given up and the girls took advantage of this, passing and moving the ball around our opponents and creating brilliant chances at goal. This half saw an array of goals with Armstrong bagging herself a brace, Fairbairn making the score sheet and another two from Scott making it six in total.
Player of the match was awarded to Scott for her excellent performance and work rate from start to finish. It was great to see her keep her head after a load of chances in the first half going wide. Due to this she kept plugging away and made up for the goals in the second half.
Overall, a great team performance by all the players who continued to play football for the entire 90 minutes seeing excellent triangles, plays and passes all around the pitch.
Well done Girls!!!
