Match Report

Today was the semi final of the league cup. We drew tough opponents Coxhoe Ladies away at their home ground.

The game didn't start great for us seeing Coxhoe take the upper hand and really pressure us. The girls battled back hard and finally their playing style started whinging through getting the ball down and moving the ball around the pitch. The girls began using the wide channels like usually and began really pressuring our opponents.

The first goal was finally scored in the 34th minute with a superb balk through from Armstrong finding striker Murray who finished the ball with ease. This was the goal we needed and spurred us to carry on. Around 6 minutes after this goal the girls scored another two cracking goals seeing Scott and Turnball both get on the score sheet. We went into the half three goals ahead which give us a bit breathing space but we knew we had to keep the pressure on as pur opponents were strong and could easily get back in.

The second half started well for us seeing us score a goal within 6 minutes of the half, this time set up by Turnball and finished by Wilson. Coxhoe heads seemed to drop after this goal and we took the upper hand looking for the 5th goal to seal the game. This came around 18 minutes into the half seeing Murray take on numerous players and slot the ball straight past the keeper. We dominated for the remainder of the game, Coxhoe still breaking on a few occasions but we dealt with it well and took advantage of our chances on the counter. Murray bagged herself another goal giving her a well deserved hattrick and winger Armstrong also netted with a tremendous finish.

Player of the match today was awarded to Murray for her fantastic performance for her entire time on the pitch. She changed the game when she stepped foot on the pitch and her energy both on and off the ball was a huge headache for our opponents.

A brilliant game of football by the entire team and a massive score line against a really good side. We now have the final ahead of us to Darlington Spraire ladies which is another huge and tough test for the team but we will give it everything we got.

Well done girls
