Today we played Washington Ladies away at their home ground. Due to being a mid week match a few players were missing but we still went into the game with a strong squad.
The game couldn't of started better for us seeing us net within only 3 minutes of play. Versatile work horse Wilson won the ball out on the left wing and sent it crashing past the Washington keeper with ease. 4 minutes later hard working Turnball netted our second goal taking on numerous players then finally shooting hitting the bottom right hand corner of goal.
It was as if the girls took their feet off the gas after scoring these two goals so early on and Washington took full advantage of this. They managed to slip one past us in the 11th minute of play. They came at us hard after this goal looking for the equaliser but we defended well and counter attacked excellently. Finally in the 29th minute of the half talented player Murray won the ball in midfield taking on numerous players and striking the ball sending it crashing straight past the opposing keeper. A tremendous finish. We went into the half time break 4-1 up so we knew we could relax and enjoy the game during the remaining minutes.
The girls headed back out after a quick break and got at Washington from the beginning creating chance after chances, forcing errors and winning numerous corners. It was Stubbs that got the fifth and final goal of the game with a terrific and powerful strike from just outside of the box. Washington battled hard and did not allow us to relax for the remainder of the game.
Player of the match today was awarded to Murray for her solid performance both up front and in centre midfield.
Overall, a great game of football where the girls switched off briefly but they pulled it back and came away with another great win. Well done Girls.
