Today we faced Newton Aycliffe ladies at home in our first game of the Subsidiary Cup competition. With the awful weather we hadn't played for a number of weeks so the team were very excited to kick a football.
The game started the same as it ended, dominated by the home team with Newton breaking on a few occasions. Newton had some very pacey players so their attacks were hard to defend but our back four did a great job to retain the ball from their opponents and get straight back on the counter attack.
The first half saw three fantastic goals from Murray, Fairbairn and Richardson giving us a nice 3-0 lead as we went into the half time break.
The second half seemed as though our opponents heads dropped and the team took full advantage of this moving the ball all over the pitch seeing some brilliant football played with excellent chances created. The second half saw six goals with a brace from Fairbairn who was now on her hattrick, Scott also bagged herself a hattrick and Wilson also managed to make the score sheet.
Player of the match today was awarded to new signing Loraine for her excellent and solid performance from start to finish. Although she didn't have lots to do at the back, when Newton did break she commanded the back four excellently and calmly allowed us to regain possession and play from there creating chances as a result.
Overall a great game of football by the home side with every single player on the pitch putting in 100%. Well done Ladies.
