Today we played our final home game of the season away to Coxhoe Ladies. With many players missing due to work commitments and injuries we knew it would be a tough game and Coxhoe put up a great battle from the first whistle making the game even tougher.
The first half saw Coxhoe really battle hard against us making it almost impossible to get any success in the final third. They had a very skilful and fast winger who caused issues for us but the back four defended well and stopped any goal scoring chances. As a team we were very poor throughout the entire first half, not using the width and space on the pitch and seeming to struggle to link a few passes together.
Half time came and the score remained at zero for both teams. The girls had a good talking too and seemed up for taking the second half to Coxhoe.
We were like a different team second half from the off seeing us create some brilliant chances at goal seeing us hit both posts and the cross bar. As time started progressing in the second half it seemed like we were never going to get this much needed and deserved goal. Finally in the 77th minute of play hardworking Fairbairn won the ball and played a tremendous pass through to Turnball who fired the ball straight past the keeper. This lifted the team again and they looked for the next one, being denied by the keepers saves and defences clearances. In the 85th minute once again it was Fairbairn who won the ball and made her way down the right of the pitch she played it through to skilful, workhorse Armstrong who sent the ball crashing past the keeper securing our lead. Time ran out for the team to score anymore but what a tremendous pull back in the second half to come out with a great 3 points and a clean sheet.
Player of the match today was awarded to Fairbairn for her continuous hard work which eventually payed off in creating much needed goals to take the win.
A game of two halves but a great 3 points against a good Coxhoe side, well done Ladies!!!
