Match Report

Faced our toughest test of the pre-season so far tonight playing Blyth Town Ladies who won promotion to the Northeast regional league last season. A very strong and physical side which made for a very good football match.

Blyth came at us strong and fast from the first whistle but as a team we handled it well and made numerous counter attacks. There were chances at both ends but it was Blyth who took the lead early with a superb finish in the 11th minute of the game. We looked hard for the equaliser, creating some excellent chances but the Blyth keeper kept us out on a number of occasions. In the 16th minute we were finally rewarded. Crid won the ball finding striking partner Mel who hit the netting with ease. This goal made both teams pull up their socks and become even more competitive.

Right before the half time whistle the fantastic striking duo Crid & Melissa struck again seeing a tremendous ball in from Crid to Mels feet who struck the ball beating the keeper for the second time.

The second half we came at Blyth with everything we had and it certainly paid off. In the 47th minute of play Mel won the ball from an opposing player and made her way to goal, she was getting closed down so struck the ball from around 30 yards out and sent it crashing into the top right hand corner... tremendous finish. This goal seemed to drop Blyths heads slightly but we knew we couldn't switch off as they were constantly a threat.

We kept creating chances and finally our hard work paid off with a superb finish from new signing Rebecca in the 65th minute of play and last but not least literally on the referees final whistle Mel won the ball on the right of the pitch and played in a great cross right into the box where Charlene finished it sublimely.

Player of the match today was awarded to Mel for her excellent performance, work rate, creativity and superb goals.
Huge well done to the team for this great win against a very strong side. We wish Blyth the best of luck in the Northeast regional league next season.

Well done girlies ⚽️
