Today the ladies travelled away to strong & physical opponents Consett AFC Belles in the league cup.

The game started well for the team seeing us have majority of possession and creating some excellent chances at our opponents goal. Unfortunately, we were denied on a number of occasions in the 1st half with great saves from the Belles keeper and blocks by their defenders.

Around 10 minutes before the half time break we created an excellent chance feeding the ball through to skilful striker Mel who finished the ball brilliantly with a terrific header. The belles shouted for offside and the referee give it. This was a huge blow to the team as we were creating so many chances and when we finally hit the net we were wrongly disallowed an offside goal.

Half time came and the girls had a well earned break, a productive team talk and with a few substitutes made for fresh legs we were ready to head back out.

The second half saw our performance pick up even more. Belles are a strong and physical side who were always a threat which made for a good and competitive game of football.

Finally in the 70th minute of play striking duo Crid & Mel created that magic they are so good at and netted our first goal of the game. It was a lovely ball fed through from Crid finding Mels feet, she controlled and struck the ball beating the keeper and hitting the bottom left hand corner of the goal. A tremendous creative and well finished goal.

We battled hard for the next goal and the Belles battled back for the equaliser. Our hard work payed off in the 78th minute with duo striking once again. This time it was Mel that won the ball and played it through to Crid who done terrific to take on numerous players beating them all then slamming the ball straight past the Belles keeper. This give us the relaxing goal we needed and we enjoyed the rest of the game seeing some lovely football being played.

Player of the match today was awarded to Melissa for her fantastic effort from start to finish. She was denied a great goal being unfairly ruled offside but kept her head and battled hard. She set and scored two crucial goals and was just a constant headache for our opponents.

A great game of football between two strong squads, finally seeing the spark back in the ladies team. The girls were working for each other, playing excellently as a team and managing to keep a clean sheet agaisnt such a strong team is huge credit to the girls.
