Today we played our second friendly of the 2023/2024 season at home to Berwick Rangers.
The game started well for us seeing us settle into the game quickly and create many chances at goal. The first goal came in the 7th minute of play with a throw in from Ellen which went over the head of the Berwick defender finding Mel’s feet. Mel took a great touch and struck the ball from around 30 yards out lobbing the keep with a lovely top right corner finish.
We dominated the game but didn’t find the back of the net again until the 29th minute of play. We were awarded a free kick from a Berwick attack which was offside. Keeper Charlie took the kick finding midfielder Stephs head where she flicked the ball on to Zarr. Zarr controlled the ball and made a run towards the box, as she was closed down she played it out to Hannah on the left wing who struck the ball and beat the keeper from around 30 yards out.
Credit to Berwick who reacted positively and had a go at attacking our end. Keeper Charlie pulled off a superb save getting down low to keep our 2 goal lead.
We attacked once again and in the 42nd minute we were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box. Keeper Charlie stepped up to take it and converted her chance with a superb strike.
The girls had a well earned break and headed out for the second half.
Our first goal was scored in the 61st minute after a free kick was awarded. Zarr put in a superb ball which was palmed away by the keeper. Centre midfielder Steph ran for the spilled ball and sent it crashing into the back of the net.
Our next two goals came in quick succession of each other. Zarr netted on the 65th minute assisted by Hannah followed a minute later with a great finish from Mel winning the ball out on the left wing, beating numerous defenders as she drove it into the box and finally beat the keeper.
The chances and football being created by the team were phenomenal. They were working so hard for each other.
On the 79th minute Mel struck again this time driving the ball into the box and looking to play in Lucy who made a great run towards the back post. As she played the ball across a Berwick defender got a touch on the ball sending it over the line.
Less than a minute later we were on the attack again this time seeing Ellen drive the ball down the left wing and fire in a superb high cross finding striker Alex’s head finding the back of the net with a terrific header.
