Today we faced Leam Rangers at home in our first game in over 3 weeks due to weather. Our referee had a car accident so finding a replacement last minute was hard but we managed and put our kick off back to 2:15pm. Not a great start for either side.
Thr game didn't start well for us at all seeing us start slow and concede in the second minute of play despite a great goal keeping save from keeper Charlie.
Leam had a very good and fast striker who was very skilful with the ball at her feet. She caused our defence lots of headaches and was extremely hard work for them in particular for the first half of the game. We had a few efforts at the Leam goal but there keeper pulled off some great saves one around the 40th minute where she pulled off a superb treble save. Leam countered from this chance and scored their second goal of the game giving them a 2-0 lead as we entered the half time break.
The second half the team had a much better performance, far stronger as a team and working harder for each other. We had the majority of possession and due to our constant attacks it allowed us to push current centre half Jodi into midfield. Unfortunately in front of goal nothing was going right for us and the game ended 2-0 to Leam who ended the game with 10 players due to red card in the 80th minute.
Overall, not the best team performance but was positive to see it turned around in the second half of the game. We had a lot of big players missing but the girls availble give their best efforts.
Player of the match today was awarded to full back Ellen who was brilliant for the entire 90 miniutes. She was a rock in the back four winning every thing she went in for. A superb performance and a well earned player of the match title.
We now enjoy a couple of weeks break for christmas and will return on Sunday 7th January with an away game to Stockton Town Ladies.
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
