Today we played our home game against Horden CW Women at Gateshead International Stadium on 3G due to the awful rain we had endured which waterlogged our pitch.
The game started well for the side seeing them take the lead after only 15 minutes of play. It was striker Mel who ran the ball to the byline having a shot which was palmed away by the keeper. Striking partner Alex raced in for the rebound smashing it home to give us an early lead. Less than 2 minutes later we scored almost an identical goal this time seeing Mel pull back the ball for striking partner Alex who sent the ball into the bottom right corner. We netted again in the 19th minute, this was another saved shot from Mels effort kicked away by the keeper. The ball fell to winger Char who struck the ball lobbing the keeper from a tight angle into the far corner.
The girls had a very comfortable 3-0 lead but the goals didn't stop there. On the 24th minute striker Mel on the attack again squares the ball to winger Char who finished it brilliantly with a top corner placement.
Horden broke against winning a corner kick. This corner was placed perfectly into the box seeing them claw back a goal in the 31st minute.
The girls kept very much on top of the game seeing another two goals scored before the half time break. First one right on the 45th minute. It was a corner kick taken by winger Char took short to full back Lucy. Lucy put the ball into the box finding striker Mels feet who placed her shot inch perfect beating the keeper with ease. 2 minutes later now into stoppage time striker Mel was at it again this time playing a superb pass to winger Emma who slid the ball forward to striker Alex who scores again getting her well earned hattrick. This goal lead us 6-1 ahead as we entered the half time break.
The second half we moved players around and began concentrating on our style of play rather than scoring lots of goals which resulted in seeing lots of brilliant football by the team.
In the 75th minute full back Ellen played a superb through ball forward to striker Alex who done excellent under pressure to control the ball and finish it giving her her 4th goal of the game. On the 80th minute we scored our final goal of the game seeing winger Emma pass the ball to striker Mel who with her first touch saw her turn and send the ball crashing into the bottom left hand corner.
Player of the match today was awarded to striker Alex for her brilliant work rate for the entire game seeing her score 4 superb goals. She worked her socks off for the team and was a constant headache for our opponents.
A much better team performance by the team today, credit to our opponents Horden who never give up and didn't turn on each other when the game went bad for them. They were a lovely opposition to play and we look forward to seeing them again later in the season.
