Today we played Birtley Town Ladies at Washington Hub on a 3G pitch.
A very physical and tough game seeing the teams sit only a few points away from each other in the league.
Birtley took the lead early from a corner awarded in the 14th minute of play which saw an unmarked Birtley player fire the ball in from the edge of the box.
The girls worked hard to find the equaliser which came in the 33rd minute of play. It was winger Emmas cross into the middle of the box which saw striker Alex race in and with her first touch strike the ball. The ball went through the defenders legs & curled wide of the keeper’s hands into the bottom right corner.
The remainder of the game saw chances at both ends with some unfortunate off side decisions against both sides from the referee. The game ended 1-1 and another point between the sides was shared.
A good team performance seeing spells of really attractive football played.
Player of the match today was awarded to Ellen for excellent work rate and effort at full back. She was a rock in the back four not seeing anything get past her. Well done Ellen!
