Match Report

Today we played South Moor Women at home in the league. The game didn’t get off to the best start seeing our opponents take the lead after only 6 minutes of play.

After this goal the team began to find their feet and in the 16th minute found the equaliser. It was defender Ellen who played a long ball forward finding midfielder Ellie. Ellie used her strength and beat the offside trap putting the goal in the top right corner of the goal.

Less than two minutes after the equaliser striker Mel received the ball and made a superb run into the box, seeing midfielder Jodi make a terrific run into the box she squared the ball to her. Jodi tapped the ball in across the line giving her a first goal for the team.

The girls kept on attacking at the South Moor goal but credit to them and their keeper they got infront of our shots making it hard to bring them down. Their captain in particular put in some superb challenges to keep us out.

In the 33rd minute a brilliant first time ball through from midfielder Scottish saw striker Mel run it in and slot it in the bottom right corner of the goal, giving the team a much more comfortable lead.

The final goal of the half came in the 36th minute with a ball slid through by midfielder Steph W which found striker Mel. Mel ran the ball into the box and slipped it into the bottom left corner of the goal beating the keeper for the second time in 3 minutes.

The second half saw a sloppier performance by the team who had the vast majority of possession but were not clinical enough in front of goal. South Moor broke against the run of play in the 86th minute and clawed back a goal to finish the game 4-2.

Overall, a good first half team performance let down slightly by bad decision making in the second. Lots of positives and negatives to take away from today’s game. A big fat positive was Jodi getting herself on the score sheet. The entire team were buzzing for her!

Player of the match today was awarded to defender Ellen who despite being worried about playing central within our back 3 today put in a superb performance from start to finish. A class act as always. Well done Ellen.
