Today we played Hebburn Town FC women at home. With a very small squad due to injury the team knew they would have to dig deep and play well as a team to come away with a result.
The game started excellently for us seeing us take the lead after only 3 minutes of play. It was striker Mel who got the initial shot off which was palmed away by the Hebburn keeper, Lucy raced in at the back post sending the rebound ball bursting into the back of the net.
The second goal came in the 15th minute of play where striker Mel swung the ball in towards the penalty spot for fellow striker Alex. Alex got a shot off which was palmed away by the keeper. Lucy once again came racing in and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
The remainder of the half saw us dominate the game scoring another 3 superb goals. It was striker Mel who scored the first on the 27th minute mark with striking partner Alex bag herself a brace with two great finishes in the 38th and 41st minutes.
The second half saw the team stay on top of the game with occasional counter attacks from the Hebburn side which was handled well by our defence and goal keeper. Striker Mel scored another two goals in the second both on the 60th and 90th minute giving herself a well earned hattrick.
Huge well done to player of the match Lucy who scored two great goals to give the team the early lead.
A decent team performance by the side seeing them pull together despite the low numbers and missing players due to injuries. Well done lasses.
