Today we played away from home in our second pre season friendly to Wallsend BC Ladies.

The game started well for us seeing centre midfielder Scottish strike a brilliantly shot in the 3rd minute but the Wallsend keeper pulled off a great save to keep the scores even. Less than a minute after this effort Wallsend broke down the right side of the pitch and a cross sailed into the top left corner of the goal putting them ahead.

The team worked hard for the equaliser but were denied time and time again by the Wallsend keeper. She got to Ellie free kick and Charlene’s shot in the 7th and 8th minute tipping them both over the cross bar.

On the 9th minute on play captain and centre half Steph saw Ellie in space so sent the ball across the top of the Wallsend defence. Ellie controlled the ball driving into towards goal and beating the keeper with a bullet of a strike.

The remainder of the half saw both keepers pull off some great saves to keep the score at 1-1 as we entered the half time break.

The second half started well seeing a good battle much like the first between the two sides. Wallsend managed to net a very scrappy goal in the 57th minute of play which deflated the team a lot. This put us on the back foot and seemed to give Wallsend the upper hand. The lack of subs and fresh legs for us especially in comparison to our opponents started to have an impact on our performance. Wallsend broke another 3 times on the 68th, 82nd and 86th minute of play ending the game 5-1.

Player of the match today was awarded to midfield Kirsty aka ‘Scottish’ for her brilliant hard work and workrate during the entire match. She was encouraging to those around her and very unfortunate to not have got herself on the scoresheet.

Overall, a decent game of football over most spells. The girls tried to play the ball around on the floor but the lack of attackers available for today’s game did somewhat affect us in the final third. We have plenty of positives to take from today’s performance and plenty things we also need to work on.

We now get ready to take on yet another team who compete in the league above in our third pre season friendly.
