The ladies done extremely well to make it to the 3rd round of the county cup. Today they faced a tough draw away from home to Sunderland West End who compete in the premier division of the NERWL.
It was a pretty evenly balanced game with Sunderland just edging things with their players experience of highly league football.
They netted once in the first half seeing us behind 1-0 at the half time break.
The second half saw a cheeky lob of our keeper with a West End player spotting Charlie off her line.
Around the 60th minute striker Mel broke looking highly likely to score but the West End keeper rugby tackled her to the floor outside of the box. The referee wrongly awarded a yellow card allowing the keeper to stay on the pitch. Mel’s free kick for the foul was saved by the super shot stopper. A very poor decision by the official who massively impacted the outcome of the game. West End should have most certainly been down to 10 players and no keeper to have saved our free kick.
We kept soldering on the remainder of the game with no reward of a goal thanks to the West End keepers array of saves. They managed to break against the run of play and score a third to win the game 3-0.
Player of the match was awarded to striker Mel for her amazing hard work and constant running for the entire game. She was a constant headache for the opposition team and was very unfortunate to have not made the score sheet.
Well wish Sunderland West End the best of luck in the next round of the cup.
