Today we played Leam Rangers at home in what felt like an ages since our last kick of the ball due to the lovely English weather.
It’s always a physical and entertaining game between the two sides and today didn’t disappoint.
The game started well for us seeing an array of constant attacks at our opponents goal. In the 3rd minute of play the goal keeper made a save from striker Alex’s shot seeing it palmed away. Alex never give up running in and pressuring the keeper which meant the lose ball hit off her and bounced straight into the back of the net to give us the lead.
We netted again 20 minutes later this time from a quick and well taken throw by Jo finding Mel’s feet. It was great work from Mel on the left of the pitch taking on two Leam defenders and beating them both. She then sent the ball crashing into the top far corner of the goal. Superb goal.
In the 34th minute of play a long ball by the Leam defence played in their number 9 who appeared to be offside. She was one on the one with keeper Charlie and managed to slot it into the back of the goal to claw a goal back.
The score remained at 2-1 for the rest of the game seeing chances created at both ends. Special mention to our keeper Charlie who pulled off an unbelievable save as the game was drawing to a close to ensure we kept our well earned 3 points. A very physical battle where the girls deservingly came out with the result they deserved.
Player of the match was awarded to Robbo for her excellent performance and work rate in her first game back after over a year and a half out. It was like she had never been away and was amazing to have her back on the pitch.
A superb team performance today with lots of great football played gave the girls their reward of 3 points for the table. They were by far the better footballing team today and it was great to see the link up play and work rate for each other.
