Today we played Newton Aycliffe away from home. The game started well for us seeing some excellent football and attempts at goal. The small pitch was a lot to get used too seeing our first few efforts run out of pitch.

In the 8th minute of play Ellie wins ball on edge of box running it into corner flag area and drills in a great cross towards the penalty spot area. Lauren went towards the ball with her back to goal so she left it for winger Zarr who sent the ball crashing into the bottom right corner of the goal.

In the 12th minute striker Mel makes a superb run with the ball after winning it in midfield and plays a perfect pass forward to midfielder Ellie who strikes the ball with her first touch beating the keeper with a left bottom corner finish.

Less than 3 minutes later a ball repelled by a Newton defender fell to striker Mel who created her own space and floated the ball over keeper into top corner.

On the 21 minute mark striker Mel drove into the box beating 2 defenders before finishing into top corner with a superb left footed strike.

In the 43rd minute the team switched off slightly seeing Newton move forward with the ball. The ref gives a soft pen as the player already falling is tackled by fullback Ellen. The pen was saved by Charlie palmed away from the goal but the loose ball falls to their strikers feet and puts away the rebound.

The girls react brilliantly to conceding seeing then move straight up the other end of the pitch less than a minute later. Good work between Lauren and Jodi to get the ball up and through to striker Mel who again picked out the top corner.

In the 75th minute Lauren was fouled just outside of the box. Striker Mel takes the free kick sending it straight in at the front post.

The Newton striker breaks against the run of play and some really good work from her see’s a second goal for the home side.

The team react well getting back on the attack at Newtons goal. In the 82nd minute an attempted overhead kick by Zarr is blocked by a Newton defender but captain Steph gets the rebound.

Less than 3 minutes later and disbelief by the crowd captain Steph gets a 2nd! Great centre forward play by the usual centre half as she turns the defender and though the initial shot is saved she lifts the rebound over the keeper.

Player of the match today was awarded to midfielder Ellie for a well worked performance seeing her get herself on the score sheet and create an array of chances.

Huge well done to the girls for another well battled team performance.
