Rutherford secured a 7-3 victory at home over Washington Athletic Monaco.
The match began with an early stroke of luck for Rutherford, as a Joe corner in the 4th minute was diverted into his own net by a Washington defender. However, the visitors quickly responded, equalising just 8 minutes later from a well-delivered long throw that caused confusion in the box.
Rutherford regained the lead in the 14th minute through Michael, who finished coolly after an assist from Elliott. Washington responded once more, first pulling level with a well-taken strike before going ahead with a penalty midway through the first half. But Rutherford were not to be outdone—within seconds of Washington's penalty, they restarted play, and Max Billingham sent the ball to Joe, who ran the length of the pitch to score a stunning solo effort, ensuring the teams went into the break at 3-3.
The second half saw Rutherford take full control. Michael put his side ahead in the 50th minute, tapping in an easy finish after Joe’s shot was parried into his path. Rutherford's dominance continued with a fantastic team move, finished off by Joe for 5-3, with Elliott picking up another assist.
Michael then completed his hat trick with a trademark long-range effort, before adding his fourth just moments later, finishing confidently one-on-one following another assist from James. Despite a determined showing from Washington, who remained direct and physical throughout, Rutherford's fluid passing and control eventually proved too much, as they ran out comfortable 7-3 winners.
The victory sees Rutherford take all three points and continue their strong start to the season.
Man of the Match this week was Michael for his 4 goals but notable mentions go to Joe for his direct play, quality on set pieces and another 2 goals. James and Elliott both played very well, setting up 2 goals each with Max Billingham also adding to his impressive tally of assists. All in all a very good team performance, especially in possession, with all the players really putting into practice the passing patterns we've been working on. Well done everyone.
