Rutherford edged out Washington Lynx on very hot day to earn all three points.
Rutherford struck first after just nine minutes through Max Billingham, who finished calmly to give the away team the perfect start, however Washington responded almost instantly, capitalising on a defensive lapse to level the score.
The away side regained the lead through a brilliant header from Max Johnson, only for Washington to once again find an equaliser before the break, making it 2-2 at half-time.
The second half saw Rutherford take control. Michael grabbed quick-fire hat trick, turning the match firmly in Rutherford’s favour. Joe then added a 6th goal, before Max Billingham grabbed his second of the match to extend the lead to 7-2.
But just as Rutherford appeared to be cruising, Washington launched a spirited fightback, scoring three goals in five frantic minutes to cut the deficit to one. The closing moments were tense, but Rutherford held their nerve to secure deserved victory.
In Shaun's final match of the season he was given the honour of choosing the Man of the Match award which this week goes to James Lee for his excellent performance on the left wing. Notable mentions for the other forwards, Max, Joe and Michael who's firepower saw Rutherford over the line once again
