Another week another high pressing performance from the lads in red and black. I’ve been warned from other coaches and the ref about the quick break and ruthlessness in-front of goal from Coxhoe , so with this in mind we looked to see their biggest threat and tried to play him out of the game and I think the lads did that really well today. The first half was fairly balanced but we did seemed the bigger threat of the 2 teams. The first half ended 2-2 with 2 goals from Jacob the first was from a cross off Charlie which he put past the keeper, the second came from lewis winning the ball, playing to Joseph and him crossing it over to a running Jacob. Keeper had no chance.
The second half started the same as the first and the goals were a bit ‘tit for tat’ we’d score then they would, our 3rd came from a pass into the middle from Mikey and Joseph was there waiting for it. 4th was Mikey with another Charlie assist. At this point we went 4-4 and the grit and determination of our lads really showed and we turned it up a notch. The goals kept rolling in 5th was Charlie with a cool left footed finish. 6th came from Jacob, 7th was Mikey and 8th was Jacob again.
Full time 8-4 Rutherford. Todays MOTM was Jacob, their coach picked him for his awareness infront of goal always managing to get himself behind the defender, well done Jacob.
Lewis: made a couple important tackles and passes first half and a couple needed saves in the second.
Finlay: protected his keeper well in both halves, especially back end of the first half.
Jack: had a solid performance on the left wing today and was really unlucky not to get a goal for his efforts.
Joseph: covered every blade of grass today. He was a real menace for Coxhoe and played some important balls.
Charlie: was full of confidence after last week’s performance, set up a couple and got another goal himself.
Mikey: solid performance both in goal and outfield, made some important saves and was driving at them second half.
Jacob: another 4 goals to add to his total for the season. Nice and calm infront of goal and another MOTM for his efforts.
