Tough game against a strong consett team, not sure what they feed them up there but some of the kids were nearly as big as me!
We stared the game positive off the back of a convincing win on Wednesday night. And played some good football but all it took was a second lapse in concentration for consett to show why they’ve been dominating the division. We were back in it from this point and caused them a few problems but their big, confident keeper was on hand to collect all efforts. Goal 2 for consett came from a well worked corner, a goal that wouldn’t stand next season when the ‘no heading’ rule comes into play. On the corner something me and Charlie have ordered the kids is ‘goal side’ and today’s post match chat it was made apparent a couple kids didn’t know what was meant by this.. now why they’ve never asked is a mystery, but same could be said at why we just assumed they did know? Anyway we did get a toe back in the game after their number 9 got increasingly frustrated with Charlie leaving him for dust and took him down (not for the first time) and he shot straight at Joseph, who the ball deflects off then went in 2-1 going into half time.
Second half and Consett seemed to be ordered to stop the physical part and move the ball around and they did just that. Constant 1-2’s drawing us into chasing the ball and pulling us out of position. That being said we weren’t out of it even when they put the rest past us the score line didn’t reflect the game. Final score 5-1.
The lads put a really good shift in today, never give up and went toe to toe with one of the strongest teams in the league. We created some really promising chances but their 6foot keeper was on hand to keep them ahead.
Today’s MOTM was Jack Steele. To someone who wasn’t there today they might look at 5-1 and the keeper getting MOTM as crazy but he was put through the mill today, if it wasn’t for Jack it may well have been 15-1. Well done Jack!
Onto tomorrow’s game, last of the cup. Let’s get out there and show what we can do!
