Game 3 against Chester le street, with a dilapidated team having Joseph B, Joseph C and Charlie out of action due to injury and also Mikey unavailable. Chester is another team we last played in our first ever season as u7’s.
The game started a bit more in favour of Chester and we let them play the ball around us showing a little too much respect and it wasn’t long before they punished us for it, slipping in behind the defence. 1-0 Chester. This seemed to wake us up a little and we pushed at them but we were a little hesitant to pull the trigger and when we did they had a competent keeper who had it under control. The game was mostly in their half but from almost nothing they managed to split the defenders and find a gap behind to make it 2-0. Just before the stroke of half time we had our best chance of the half when a ball came across the box to Joe A who wellied it just under the crossbar, but the ever present keeper parried it over.
Second half and we came out of the traps fast and hard and started to ask questions straight away and it wasn’t long before we found the back of the net, Noah… erm I mean Joseph *wink wink* played a ball across the box into the path of Joe who buried it. 2-1 game on? From this point it was all us and if it wasn’t for the keeper making some outstanding saves we’d have been looking at walking away with 3 points. Noah was close and the keeper parried it around the corner but I think shot of the day was Jack G, whilst at LB he pick a stray ball up on the half way line, seen the keeper off his line and had a go (all we ask for) and I tell you what it was a bloody good effort and he wasn’t far from scoring! Rumour has it Garry would still be celebrating now had it if went in! The only problem with playing all the game in the oppositions half is that you end up over committing players and that’s what happened in the closing minutes when they managed to split us again and we were leggy and couldn’t track back in time, take nothing away from the Chester player he took his goal really well, across the goal into the bottom corner and Jack stood no chance 3-1.
All in tonight was definitely a game of 2 halves and we were unfortunate not to take anything away. All in you may argue we were the better team but they were very clever and switched on and knew how to break our lines. Fair play.
Tonight’s MOTM was Jack G. Heroic performance both on the wing and at the back, ever closer to his goal (although he may have stopped us scoring one with his head… but well not remind him of that)
Onto the next game bright and early Saturday morning!
