Game week 2 in the Steve Coxon cup against north east skills navy, a team who were promoted into those cup division. You could see from our pre game warm up that the kids were up for it today, there was no messing about, no silliness and they just wanted to get out there and play.
The first half was nail biting from start to finish, it had a little of everything and our lads put in one hell of a shift, both defensive and in attack but neither team could break the deadlock. I think this may have been the most entertaining 0-0 half we’ve played.
We went into the second half, with maybe a little too much confidence and stepped away from a player, leading to the first goal of the game. It came from nothing and looked to go wide, but it clipped the inside of the post and went in. 1-0 down and it seemed to spur us on more than it did the Navy’s we really went toe to toe with them but but was a well placed ball from Joseph that found the running Joe who levelled the score. We had a few more opportunities from here but anything that got past the cb, the keeper was fast of his line to sweep up, this was until Joseph won a battle in the middle and played an almost carbon copy of the first to Joe and beat the cb and keeper again 2-1. From this both teams had a couple decent opportunities but both the defensive lines and keepers kept it as it was.
Chester - attitude was 10/10 today, the game had some scrappy moments but he didn’t get dragged into it and let his football do the talking, was unfortunate not to score in his new boots.
Mikey - versatile as an egg, played in 3 different positions today and done a job in all 3, real threat going forward and solid defensively.
Lewis - seen a little more of the ball today, won a few 1v1’s. Solid all around performance, started 2/3 attacks off from finding that needed pass.
Theo - growing week by week, he was like a train today when he won the ball, put a couple dangerous ones into the box too!
Joe A - another goal filled game, never stopped all game and was unlucky not to get another hattrick.
Joseph B - had a tough game in the middle today, but more than held his own against a physical team. Bagged 2 assists today, both showed his passing vision and range.
Jack G - solid as ever today, from Fridays session we kept him at the back as he won everything, this transferred into the game. Nothing got past him today.
Joseph C - again solid as ever, nothing got past him and he dealt with the huge number 4 (head and shoulders bigger than himself) really well.
Finlay - solid at the back, showed that he’s the fastest on the pitch a couple times today. Did have a good run at goal but I think excitement took over him when the shot came.
Jack S - today’s MOTM. Made some really critical saves today, 2 notable saves that were just dipping under the crossbar. Controlled his box really well and started off all the attacks today as the passing from the back was on top form. Well done Jack!
Tough game today, the opposition was one of the best teams we’ve played in a while with their feet, but we worked together as a team and didn’t get sucked into the silliness of the game and came out with a win.
Onto next weeks game against Washington united yellows a team who stayed in this division from the previous league.
